FAQs

What type of training do you do?

Our training is directed for the family pet. We believe in and use balanced training methods to achieve the best reliability for years to come. Over the 28+ days you’re dog is in our care we pattern behavior appropriate for in the house, on leash, and the basic off-leash reliance to start your new chapter together.

What do you mean by Balanced Training Methods?

We believe in the use of both Positive and Negative Reinforcement. To increase a behavior we may use;  verbal praise, petting, food rewards, or play. To decrease a behavior such as jumping, chewing, counter surfing, rushing the door we would correct the dog using one of the following; leash correction, e collar, spatial pressure, pet convincer, etc and then show the dog what we prefer them to do instead.

For example, the dog notoriously rushes the door each time the doorbell rings.

We would first teach the “place” command and make sure the dog has a proper understanding of;  what the elevated dog bed is, how to get there, and how to remain on place with distractions. Next, I would have the dog on place and have someone knock on the front door to see what they do. If they decide to rush the door, provide the appropiate correction and lead them to the place bed. The end goal being, when the dog hears the door knock they will remain on place or you can easily send them to place.
